Cozy fantasy isn't the problem
Getting real tired real fast of people's contempt for cozy fantasy. It's fine if you have criticisms of a particular book. It's fine if you don't vibe with the genre (I don't particularly vibe with it myself). You couldn't get into it? Fair, just like I couldn't get into your 12 volume grimdark military hard SF saga. But stop complaining about how much you hate it and how you're taking "psychic damage" from how "inanely pleasant" you found a book that's explicitly meant to be safe comfort reading. The return slot is right there, folks.
Again, it's fine not to care for it. But the rhetoric of "this is so NICE, it's DISGUSTING and STUPID" is obnoxious as fuck, especially when you then go on to complain about how everyone has CIVIL RIGHTS and PRONOUNS and that's just unrealistic and therefore despicable.
I see lots of screeds in defense of dark, disturbing art. But apparently it's fine to shit on something because its lack of drama or ugliness or action disturbs you.
We need both.
